I think there is a similar issue with the QW2016 R18.4 Mondo patch. It is 1.04GB in size. I got the same 'Not enough disk space error' the first time I tried to run it, but eventually got it to run and it seems to have updated fine.

    Hello Phil,
Thank you for taking the time to share this concern with the Community and I apologize for any issues experienced while installing the R18.4 Mondo Patch.
I double-checked with our Development team and they have confirmed the 1.04GB file size is correct for the QWin 2016 R18.4 Mondo Patch. It is not affected by the issue seen with the Windows 2019 R15.15 patch previously which is why I have moved your comment to it's own, standalone post.
I'm glad to hear that you were able to install the patch and please let us know if there are any further questions/concerns on this matter that the Community may assist with.
    Thank you,
    Sarah

Frankly I do think it is bug, but since the patch is 'working' they have left it as is.
If you remember the one that was deemed bad, here is a screenshot of the bad one and the fixed one:

    Hi Sarah,
Thank you for escalating this query. I guess I have to accept what the development team say, but 1.04GB still seems a massive size for an update considering that my entire Quicken program folder in C:Program Files (x86) is only 242MB in size even after the R18.4 update has been applied (with a further 75MB in C:Program DataIntuit) - so 317MB in total excluding my data files!
What could be in an update patch that it needs to be over three times the size of the application it has updated!
I'm in the habit of keeping backups of my installation media, amongst other files, so the R18.4 Mondo patch is a lot of real estate and whilst not a problem in my local backups, does count for a substantial amount of space in my cloud backups that I have to pay for.
Can you tell me if the advice in this community FAQ still applies:
    https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/resolution-quicken-for-windows-2016-wont-open-af...
i.e. in the event of needing to reinstall QW2016 from scratch, do I need to keep copies of the R8 and R12 Mondo patches as well as the original QW2016 installer executable, or will the R18.4 Mondo update directly from the original (R1.2?) release in the installer?
    Thanks again,
    Phil

You'll need the original installer .exe file...and then ONLY the last Mondo Patch available.
The Mondo Patch contains all the previous patches as well.

The only reason to keep patches that aren't the latest is if for some reason the latest patch has a problem so that you can reinstall the old one.
Note I do maintain the old patches here:

QPW - so are you saying that the R18.4 Mondo will update the original product all the way to 18.4 with no issues?
Sorry to appear muddle headed about this. It's just that the link to the community FAQ I posted above relates to a problem where QW2016 failed to open after reinstallation and updating to the (then) latest patch. The solution (actually attributed to you) was to update with the R8 Mondo and then update with the R12 Mondo before updating to the latest release. This recommendation is still referenced on the current Quicken page for obtaining current QW2016 updates.
That appears to me to indicate that the R12 Mondo (or later) wouldn't update seamlessly from the original product, otherwise the intermediate step of using the R8 Mondo wouldn't be necessary.
In the back of my mind I have a suspicion that all of this possibly relates to the move from Intuit to Quicken Inc. which I think happened through the R11 to R14 patches and the change from an Intuit ID to Quicken ID.
Notice that the files in the current 'QW2018/19' patches are named from 'r1.to.current version}.wyu' but those included in the QW2016 patches only run from 'r11.to.{current version].wyu' i.e. versions r1 through r10 to {current version} are missing.
I am aware that you maintain copies of old patches - thanks :-)
It's just that I tend to be over-careful with backing up important stuff, so although I know (hope) that your site would still be available if ever I was to need it, there's no substitute in my mind for having what I might need on site and in my own off site backup - and I really would be lost without my Quicken data file so I tend to regard it as one of the most valuable pieces of digital information that I own!

    Phil,
Actually the more I think about it I think I will change my statement a bit to this.
The reason to keep patches that aren't the latest is if for some
reason the latest patch has a problem so that you can reinstall the old
    one.
    (I dropped only)
As the example you stated proves the version of patch you might need to fix things might not be the one before the one that is currently 'messed up'.
As is typical in these cases, the explanation of what was going on from Quicken Inc was 'watered down', and once the web page was created, it will never be updated again.
For instance the install for Quicken 2013 is available on their website. It was originally put there because of a bug in an earlier version of Quicken 2014 wouldn't convert Quicken 2009 and below files correctly. That bug was fixed in a patch to Quicken 2014, and none of the other versions of Quicken had the problem. So to this day they have it stated that if you are upgrading from Quicken 2012 or below you have to go through Quicken 2013. When in fact you can use any version 'year version' of Quicken that is later than the one you are coming from.
In the case that you linked it was again a 'special sequence' that shouldn't come up again provided someone is using the latest version of the patches.
For as I know the last set of patches that didn't include all of the patches before it, for that year was in Quicken 2004.
IF things don't go wrong in their patches you shouldn't need anything other than the last patch. But history has shown, that keeping them might 'save the day' when things don't go as planned.
And I totally agree that people should realize that in fact saving these patches really is something they need to do, especially if they are going to be using a version that isn't supported.
On the patch sizes and what I expect out of Quicken Inc.
Clearly they have had a bug that they have 'ignored' for a long time. No one questioned the sizes until they got really big. And after that they have definitely decided that even if it contains more than it needs they aren't going to take the trouble to go back and fix them. In fact they aren't even going to provide them.
Years ago they started the policy of removing the older patches.
Note even though I haven't tried it, I do believe that it might be possible to go in and remove the redundant files. I don't think the installer actually looks at these files.
I would also add that this problem was one reason for me to upgrade my Internet service. These huge patches where taking forever. And it was even partly a reason I decided to start using Office 365 instead of the Office 2010 I had. Office 365 gives me 1 TB of space for up to 5 users. So the space isn't a problem any more.
I can actually store unlimited size of files on AWS (Amazon's storage system), which I use for my programs on my website for free (and the upload is free). But the way they make their money is by how much is downloaded. With OneDrive I don't pay per download.
BTW for archiving files like this for personal use AWS is a very choice.
It isn't a nice 'Cloud sync' kind of service though.

Thanks QPW. A very comprehensive reply.
As for cloud storage, I don't use any instant sync type system, and security of backups is my primary concern, followed by cost. My on site backups create/update an encrypted backup set which is then compared once a day to the cloud backup and any changes updated and stored with the additional transfer and storage encryption offered by the provider. I was using Mozy but have just been transferred to Carbonite through their buyout of Mozy. The jury is still out, but that is who I am with for now...
    Thanks again,
    Phil

I was thinking about this and remembering the full history.
I wasn't the one that found that installing R8 fixed the problem. Unfortunately I can't remember the user's name that found it (it wasn't a SuperUser), and he just happened to have R8 to roll back to, so that is where that came from.
I was the one that 'got the word out'. As in as people reported having the problem I kept posting this possible solution, and finally Quicken Inc picked up on it.
I might add that shortly after the user reported it, I tested and found that you could install up to R10 and still have the workaround work. And I stated that in my posts, but it got lost in most future posts. I think the problem started to come to light about at R11 or R12.
And I checked on my website where I had documented the Intuit to Quicken Id change over and that was R13, so that wasn't the cause of this problem.
On the AWS I should have said that it isn't either a Cloud sync or a backup system.
Even though it is used as back end for a lot of systems. Dropbox for instance uses it for their storage.
There are backup application that can use if for their storage, but I use it in purely a manual upload kind of situation, where I wouldn't be downloading (expect for my program from the website). I use it for a secondary backup of the patches.
I was looking it up and I was wrong, they do charge for storage space 'the price'?
$0.023 per GB - first 50 TB / month of storage used
So the 37.5GB I had on there as of last month cost me:
    0.88 last month.
Note that you can choose non encrypted, encrypted by AWS system key, or by your own key as you upload each file.
